ATLAS barrel toroid coils

ATLAS is one of the main particle detectors in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at Geneva's CERN, for high-energy physics experiments.

ASG Superconductors produced the superconducting coil for the Barrel Toroid, the main toroidal system.

It is the largest magnet ever built (25 m long), consisting of 8+8 flat double pancakes, in a  racetrack configuration, assembled radially and symmetrically around the beam axis, on an inner radius of about 5 meters.
