ITER TFMC

ITER TFMC (Toroidal Field Model Coil)

Garching (Germany), 1999

The main objective of the ITER TF Model Coil was to demonstrate the industrial feasibility of the ITER TF Coil and to assess its operating margins. The coil was manufactured by the European Consortium AGAN and delivered in 1999, where the Company was responsible for the coil winding, the development of the Full Size Joint Samples and the Incoloy program. In the framework of a study of the ITER central solenoid coils and the toroidal field coils, a jacketing of a superconducting cable using a nickel alloy named Incoloy 908 has been developed, aimed at limitating the critical current degradation of Nb3 Sn wires. For the manufacturing of a poloidal field coil prototype for ITER project, in 2002 ASG has made the jacketing of a superconducting cable by a stainless-steel conduit.
