MGB2: successful tests of a new superconducting electrical transmission line for LHC Cern
23/04/2019
Our wires in the superconducting cable of the first, ever made, very high current power transmission line demonstrator made with MgB2 - magnesium dibioride! Test at CERN has demonstrated that the whole system works correctly, the system will transport up to 100000 amps to feed the magnets of High Luminosity LHC. In the future, this technology can be implemented in similar transmission line to transport current and power over long distances.
